Well it is when you hit a 4 card flush to knock out two players….

I’ve been playing in my first 2009 WSOP event, the 1500, and am going into Day 2 today in a few hours on WAY too little sleep. I had a good table for a lot of the day but it got much MUCH harder after the dinner break. Bad timing as I also got sleepier and less focussed and really missed a lot of opportunities. Today is a new day though and all that, so onwards and upwards! I’ve got over 80k which puts me in the top 20% I think so I’m in good shape and hopefully I’ll get a good table draw.

I had quite a few good players at the table at the end of yesterday but knocked out two of them with the above mentioned hand. It was seriously sick but the way it went down was pretty standard. Right after that, I had an incredible run of cards and it must have seemed like I was raising and re-raising every hand. And then I lost a biiiiig pot. An agressive guy raised in early position and I re-raised with pocket 10s. He thought for a while and called. The flop was K4x and he checked. I bet him all in (it was an overbet of the pot but I wasn’t bet folding based on his stack size) and he insta-called with pocket 44s. Doh!

I really tightened up (way WAY too much) after that and once the bubble burst I headed back to the hotel for some sleep.

It’s great being at the WSOP again and damn, I hope I continue to run so good.

    “God save the Queen!”

Kara- It was a pleasure playing with you in #24. You may recall, I kept asking you if you were raising/re-raising me to avenge the US victory in the Revolutionary War. Purely in jest of course, but did you really have to have aces against my Jacks when I shoved? And did you have to have JUST 150 more in chips than I did at that precise moment?! : )

Well, thanks for giving me a way better story about how I went out of the event than most who didn’t make it past Day 1. Believe me, I would rather have the story about how I spiked runner-runner Jacks after the flop and cleft you with 150, but getting knocked out by you in that manner is respectable enough.

A couple of questions for you about that hand. In the exact same position exactly one round before, the same betting occurred. I raised to 950- you re-raised to 2100. I folded showing Ax-Jx. You showed Ax-Kx. It had happened before, but in the earlier rounds. I believe I showed As-10s and you showed Ax-Qx. Given that, do object to my pushing against your re-raise when I had JJ? (not knowing, of course, that you had AA!)

In hind sight, the Ace comes on the flop, so that would have been the only saving grace to flat calling. But if it doesn’t, it’s probably all going in after the flop anyway and my fate is sealed regardless. (I bet like 3k, you shove, I call, OR I just shove)

Question 2- If you had AK or AQ, would you have put your 9500 at risk against an all-in bet to your re-raise?

I’d appreciate any advice/thoughts you might have.

What happened to DONKR poker guy? Is he one of the guys you busted with the flush?

In any event, you are a great player and I wish you well the rest of the WSOP. If you happen to win the Main Event, it makes my story that much better, so I’ll be rooting for you!

You definitely ran badly against me in terms of hands at that table :)

in the JJ v AA hand I totally don’t object to you re-raising me there especially with the history between us. I could have been showing you hands so that you would give me credit whenever I 3 bet and besides, your JJ are in pretty good shape against my range. If you flatted and then see overcards on the flop, what do you do? I think flatting gives you tough decisions post flop and I would have shipped it in as well, in your position.

And yeah, I would be calling you with AK there as the numbers are right.

It was great playing against you and thanks for getting in touch :) See you at the tables again I’m sure where no doubt it’ll be you with the AA, teaching me a lesson.
