Some Bobby’s room action and some online play
June 5, 2009 by Brian Townsend
The past three days have been good for me. I didn’t play at all today or yesterday but the two days before I did really well winning 140k live and about 10k online. This puts me up a bit on the month even after starting off stuck about 150k in the first two days of the month.
I played a few big pots. The first was against a great online player where I opened with QJJ9 suited to with hearts to the queen. Two aggressive players called from behind and the online player called from the big blind. We took a great flop for me of J65 with two hearts. The online player led and I opted to do something I rarely do here and flat call. I may just prefer raising to flat calling here, but I felt one of the two aggressive players might reraise behind me. That said if I raise straight away they may just go allin with a draw that I have dominated anyways.
Unfortunately none of the aggressive players raised, but one did call. The turn was a low heart and the online player led again for about 8k into a 10k pot. I flat called and the aggressive player behind me folded. I really didn’t think I had the best hand very often but I had some implied odds and felt I could fold some rivers that the board didn’t pair and that he may give up with a bluff if it didn’t as well. That said my turn call may be a bit to ambitious with how the hand went down and how strong my opponents range is to call a raise from the blinds. He just isn’t going to have many unsuited aces from the preflop action in his range.
The river was a great card for me pairing the 5. My opponent checked and I bet 26k putting him allin. He thought for a very long time and eventually called with what I assume is the nutflush.
I won many small pots with the best hand at showdown against people who were not that deep. The next large pot I played was when we had 100/200 blinds with a 400 forced straddle. It was folded to me in the big blind and I looked down at 789T with one suit. I raised pot to about 1500, my opponent defended and we took a KJ8 all clubs flop heads up. I continuation bet 2500 as I had been doing alot, my opponent thought a moment and called. The turn was a seven giving me a straight and I bet 7k. My opponent thought a bit and made it 30k with another 40k behind. For various reasons I felt like I had the best hand and decided to call him down. I called the 30k raise and checked an ace river. My opponent thought for 2 min and then decided to check saying he had the bare ace.
I hope the action continues for the next few days and it feels good to book a big win after two bad losing days.
