100/200 PLO and me projecting

April 4, 2009 by Brian Townsend

Today I put in a nice session of 100/200 PLO against Unagi Is Back. It was a very aggressive match, in which I won 75k in 250 hands. This combined with my last few days of play puts me up just under 100k for the month. Hopefully I have similar results to last month this month. I am off to a good start.

My opponent was constantly putting pressure on me with reraises. He was playing very tough and putting me in some difficult spots.

Here I get it in vs top pair and a wrap on the turn, and my 2nd pair is actually a favorite.

Aces vs Kings. Not much else to say…

Another standard hand. Luckily my 2nd set holds up.

I suckout then he resucks out. I think maybe I could have folded preflop. I dunno tho, gonna talk with some people and think about it.

I almost fired the trigger on the river. I don’t think he was folding :)

Yesterday I put in a long session of 25/50 and 50/100. I was playing pretty poorly and not analyzing my opponents hands how they think about the game, but how I do. For instance, I 4-bet quite alot without aces. Because of this I thought my opponents would do similar, but many would never 4-bet without them. Projecting my play on my opponents leads me to do stuff like this. Why can’t I just fold like normal people?

That said, I don’t think the hand I posted is to bad. I mean its not good for obvous reasons, but I actually don’t hate it. After the hand happened I went for a run and blew off some steam because I felt like I was tilting and playing poorly. I thought about the hand for most of my run, and realized that none of my thoughts on the hand were disproved because he did have a hand in his range that I thought he would play this way, AAxx double suited. So I can’t really determine if my play was bad or not. I do however think its a fold in retrospect, but I wouldn’t mind calling with an ace for card removal.

These last two paragraphs seem a bit contradictory, but what I am saying is people don’t play like you do. Its your job to determine how they are playing and not think how you would play in a situation because the actions you would take mean little. Then when you do make a decision don’t be discouraged if your opponent shows you a hand that neither disproves or proves your previous analysis.
