this summer i did…
March 24, 2010 by Nick Wealthall
I’ve been on holiday. Um…..it was great. There was sun and sand and stuff. We went for walks and to restaurants and I like it a lot…
Sorry had a flashback to being 8 years old and the week after summer holiday. Obviously the teachers were as pissed to be back at work as we were to be back at school and this was their cop out…’write about your holiday’
Anyway I stayed with Brian and Kara out in Santa Barbara which was a lot of fun. It was nice to take some time out and focus on playing poker. I think my Omaha game has come on a lot in the last couple of months and if I keep my work level up I think I’ll have some good results. Looking to build my roll before Vegas.
I have to say Santa Barbara is a special part of the world. I can see why they set a soap opera there. Although they also set one in the east end of London so I don’t know what to think… It has amazing countryside, beach and climate. Also we went wine tasting which as far as I could make out is a sophisticated way to get gently whammed in the afternoon. Oh and the restaurants are great – I was eating for two. I mean not that I’m pregnant or anything just that I ate enough for two grown people…brilliant.
Now I have a couple of weeks before UKIPT Coventry which will be a lot of fun if the first two events are anything to go by. Until then I’m working on some comedy writing projects and trying to get in as much playing time as possible.
A 16k page book in Budapest
This year has started great and is just getting even better! Unibet Open was AMAZING! Budapest was as cool as usual, but the tournament was pure quality, as we’d say it in Scotland. TONS of hot women – two times Miss Hungary, some local celebs – men could not concentrate. But, just as I started crying, they gave some eye candy for gals as well – two Portuguese supermodels marched in and out of the tournament. Yup – snap bust, 20 mins in. Later on, one of them won the side event and the line that he said was hysterical.
One of the guys at the table refered to his looks saying to Pedro ( the model) that he should read more books. After winning the side event and cashing 16k euro, Pedro came back to the guys and said: ‘How would you like to read my book? It’s got 16k pages in it.’. I laughed my ass off.
It was good, fun can’t deny it, Unibet knows how to throw a fun tourney. Next stop is Bulgaria and I am already squeeking when I look at how much dieting I need to go trough before I am able to present in a bikini.Geez. Might use those capoiera lessons I got from the twins in Budapest, just before I chickened out and ran away.

BUT (haha how convenient), before that, I will heat my chair with Rury and play tons of poker cos I am getting ready for Women’s World Open that will happen in 10 days. It’s my first big one after Prague, so I am excited and nervous at the same time. I am also presenting. And blogging. And…God knows what I’m doing, multitasking I guess. Let’s wait till I completely get lost or crushed by Anette, Kara or Aisling. EEEEK! They’ve made some changes so we’re playing 8 handed, 30 min instead of 6 handed. Let’s see how that all goes, I just might bring the trophy home!
EPT Berlin and holiday
March 11, 2010 by Nick Wealthall
I’m on a plane. I’ve been on a plane a lot this year. I can remember being younger and getting super excited going anywhere on a plane now it’s become almost routine. Still get childishly excited by watching the movies – every movie is about 30% better than it actually is when you’re flying.
Just done EPT Berlin – as I’m sure you all know (given the world wide news coverage) it wasn’t a standard poker tournament as some armed robbers decided to try and freeroll it. I think I’ve filed the experience under ‘interesting’ and ‘different’. It was scary for a bout two minutes and then it was interesting!
Two things struck me about it. The first is when it happened live on air and people were running, the set fell down and the camera went wobbly. People where guessing what it was –some thought a fight, some a protest of some kind…All that happened in my head was that it was definitely a monster and it would be emerging from the set tossing tables aside like matchsticks. Little bit worried about myself sometimes….
The second thing is that I found the final table poker – which was truly excellent – much more exciting than the robbery. Again little bit worried about myself.
I’m off on holiday to see Kara and Brian and hang out. I’m not supposed to do any work. I haven’t been on a pure holiday for 18 months although I’ve done things like Vegas trips which are a combination of “work” (heavy quote marks) and holiday so I’m not complaining.
Just noting that I don’t often completely switch off from whatever work projects are going on. I think it comes from working for myself and trying to do things and make things happen I’m passionate about.. Part of the reason I used to get so excited going on planes years ago is that I was escaping work that I didn’t want to do; I don’t have that feeling any more. It’s kind of nice to be honest and I feel very lucky.
